Hi, I’m Jim Gibbons! Welcome to Mars: Space Barbarian, the first comic I’ve ever written. Well, the first comic strip… or short story… the first comics thing where I cobbled together the script!

I’ll get around to a larger and more in-depth history of this project—what it is, where it’s going, and how it came to be—but I’ve been dipping my toe in the water with this thing for months—or years—and it’s time to stop thinking about it and take the plunge.

So, here it is! Five beautiful-looking, passably scripted pages of a sci-fi swords and sorcery comic I certainly hope has a heckuva future. But, it’s my testing ground. It’s the “I think I can write, but I won’t know till I write” comic that I just had to quit noodling with and get out there. I wrote a bit about the “learning by doing” mentality behind Mars over at my blog, and as with any endeavor where you’re learning as you go, this project is going to have its faults, its bad lines, and its cliches… but I think it’s also going to be pretty amazing.

Most, if not all, of that amazingness so far is due to two rad dudes: Andrew MacLean and Ryan Hill. Two super talented guys who bring a lot more experience and craft to this project than I do! You can read more about them over at the About page, but it breaks down like this…

I had an idea. Andrew and Ryan listened to that idea. Thankfully and luckily, they agreed to become part of that idea. They added their ideas and then it became our idea. And then it became the comic you just read.

There was a lot of work and conversation and debate and emails that took place in between those steps, but you get the idea.

Anywho, here it is. Hope you all like it!

JIM
